Christmas is a time of light, and that is something that many people choose to take quite literally.
From your tree to your home, it is entirely possible to celebrate the festive season amid a multitude of sparkling coloured lights. One type that has become popular in recent years is icicle lights – but what exactly are they?
Essentially, they are lights that are designed in the shape of icicles. You know – those hard spikes of ice that hang down from the roofs of buildings when the rain freezes. Icicle lighting is designed to help create a classic look of Christmas snow and ice, even when the festive weather turns out to be more mild, wet and windy.
As you might imagine, they are not lights designed for the Christmas tree, but instead are intended to be hung from the roof of your house. That may sound like it would be a bit tricky to set up, but actually the installation of icicle lighting is a straightforward process. They come with hooks – either cupped hooks, or ones shaped like an S – that enable you to hang them with ease from the guttering.
In terms of colours, there are a lot of choices available to you. Some people like basic white icicle lights for a more classic wintery feel, but others feel that blue helps to more accurately capture the look of real icicles. It is also possible to get strings of them in multiple colours, as well as ones that blink or fade on and off.
Combine these lights with fake snow on your roof, and you’ve got yourself the full picture-postcard, white Christmas look.
