If you’ve just taken delivery of your new rattan, Charles Taylor or lifestyle garden furniture you’ll know that it looks stunning.
While the weather is good, it can be tempting to forego the cost of a cover for your furniture or to think that by design it can cope with any weather thrown at it. This is true up to a point, but when the harsher weather arrives, protection for your furniture will increase its longevity and preserve its good looks.
Store it
If you happen to have a garage or shed with plenty of space, then the ideal solution is to put it into storage for the months it isn’t in use. Of course, this is entirely dependent on having that space in the first place, and if you get a last minute decent day it’s a big job to haul the furniture back out for that one BBQ.
Cover your space
You could erect a permanent covering for your patio or garden furniture area, which can keep it shaded in summer but also protect it from the worse of the elements in the winter. It will need to be up to withstanding winds and driving rain though, so needs to be more than a temporary gazebo arrangement.
Cover the furniture
The simplest and most cost-effective way of protecting your furniture is to invest in some weather-proof covers. Most garden furniture manufacturers will supply custom made covers for their products that fit well and offer protection for the materials in question. For example, wood is particularly prone to mildew if damp, so waterproof covers are essential.
