Rattan garden furniture has been a firm favourite among everyone from home to hotel owners for many years. It has a timeless sophistication and with a variety of colours and styles to choose from, it fits in with any taste or style.
However, when buying, you can be faced with the question of natural or artificial. Here, we will go over a couple of basic pointers when you decide between the two.
Comfort
Is there any difference between natural and synthetic when it comes to all important comfort? The happy answer is ‘no’! Both can be used with cushions and you can buy a size that fits you best in either.
Durability and care
There is little doubt that synthetic rattan is easier to care for. It can withstand all weather conditions and be left out in the rain or sun with no repercussions, although there will still be differences in the quality of material used. Natural rattan is extremely durable when cared for, but it will need to be stored away or at least covered in the wet, and shouldn’t be exposed to strong sunlight for too long.
In terms of cleaning, both can get by on a sponge down with warm, soapy water, so they are equal in that sense.
Aesthetics
It is hard to tell the difference between a good quality synthetic and a natural rattan. The beauty of the furniture will be in the quality of the materials used, the quality of the weave and the shape design. That said, many people insist that natural brings a certain something that synthetic can’t match.
The decision is yours, but when it comes to a high-quality synthetic over a natural rattan, you could find there are fewer differences than you think.
