Keeping your rattan garden furniture looking good all year round shouldn’t take much effort. With a few simple steps, your furniture can keep looking as good as new for many years to come.
Cushions and covers
To start, keep the cleaning of your cushions and covers to a minimum. The special outdoor fabric will probably have been treated, so overwashing them could remove some of the stain-resisting properties. An occasional wipe down with a damp cloth should be more than sufficient.
Natural and wicker rattan
Regular cleaning is needed for natural and wicker rattan furniture. Using a soft-bristled brush, make sure to clean all the crevices of dirt and debris that will build up in the weave. Mop up spillages with a soft cloth immediately after they occur to avoid permanent staining, and use warm soapy water to remove stubborn stains.
Synthetic rattan furniture
Synthetic rattan is a great low-maintenance alternative to natural wicker, and is so simple to care for. A regular wipe down with a soft cloth and soapy water will keep your furniture in tip-top condition. To add a lovely shine, it is perfectly safe to use a little furniture polish on synthetic rattan, giving it a good-as-new look.
Keep protected
While rattan, whether natural or synthetic, is fairly robust, care is still needed to protect the structure. Pets can sometimes scratch the wicker so keep them away, and avoid sitting on the arms as this may also weaken the structure. Finally, fit rubber feet to chairs and tables, as this will help stop the rattan splitting as it is dragged back and forth across patios and decking.
