How to avoid Christmas light tangles

Hanging the fairy lights on the Christmas tree should be a fun activity. If you open the box of lights to discover a tangled mess of wire and bulbs, it is more likely to cause festive frustration though. Here are some ideas to keep the lights from getting in that condition to start with.

Cardboard wrappers

If you have the box that the lights came in, that will make keeping them separated easy. Should that not be the case though, you can create your own cardboard separators.

Make a card rectangle and add a notch at either end. Then, wind the string of lights around it, with the notches working to hold each bulb in position.

Handy hangers

Most people have more clothes hangers than they really need, and this is an ideal chance to put some of the spare ones to good use.

Wrap the Christmas lights around a clothes hanger and then tie each end at its hook. This will help to ensure they stay safely in place until you need them again next year.

Cord reels

Most people use these for storing extension cables, but this doesn’t mean they can’t be put to other uses.

Start by attaching the string of lights from one end to the cord reel. Then, all you have to do is wind the rest of the string around it to store them securely and prevent tangles developing.

If you follow any of these three simple ideas, the result will be stress-free decorating this Christmas.
