Four garden furniture tips if you suffer from back pain

Unfortunately, bad backs are fairly common across all age groups and they can affect how long you can sit comfortably in any seat. Whether you’ve gone for rattan garden furniture, Charles Taylor furniture or any other brand, they will have been made with comfort in mind.

However, there are some tips to consider if your back tends to react badly to lengthy evenings around the al fresco dining table. The last thing you want is to have to call it a night early because your back is tight or your sciatica is playing up.

1. Go for lightweight

If you know you repeatedly suffer from a sore back, try a more lightweight style of furniture that you can move around easily without wrenching or pulling your back. Rattan and aluminium styles might suit you better than heavy wood or iron.

2. Use cushions

A good depth of cushion can help stop the sciatic nerve getting irritated against hard edges, and a firm pillow in the small of your back can help to support it. Most furniture brands come with tailor made and weather-proof cushions available, but take some from inside and prop yourself up where you need to.

3. Don’t go too low

If you regularly suffer with back pain, you’ll know that the worst part is sometimes getting up and out of a seat. With this in mind, seating that is a little higher makes it easier to rise.

4. Consider reclining options

Movement is often key with managing back pain so consider options that give you space to shift and wriggle. Bench-style seating will allow you to lean over more or even swing your legs up now and again. You could also get footstools and leg rests which give you the option of changing position and shifting your pressure points frequently and easily.
