Chester Christmas Market is one of the biggest events in the city each winter, and this captivating showcase is full of charm – as well as food, drinks and gifts that are a little less conventional than what you might find elsewhere.
The 2019 event opened to the public on November 16, and the market will be open until Sunday December 22. The stalls comprise around 70 wooden chalets for a cosy, festive and traditional feel, and the goods on offer are as interesting and varied as ever.
Located in the heart of Chester city centre in Town Hall Square, the market draws visitors from Cheshire and much further afield. It is open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm daily, with extended opening on Friday and Saturday evenings until 8:00 pm.
Entry to the market is free, and there is plenty of retail therapy to be had as you browse the goods for sale in the shadow of Chester Cathedral and the city’s stunning, twinkling Christmas tree.
You can sip a delicious glass of authentic German mulled wine as you shop, and sample cheeses from all over Britain. Indulge your sweet tooth with a “ridiculously rich” chocolate confection, or try Spanish delicacies and Belgian macaroons, all washed down with a craft beer or Celtic spirit.
Wow your yuletide guests with a handmade gingerbread house, or buy a handcrafted leather accessory or piece of unique jewellery for one of your nearest and dearest. Soak up the convivial atmosphere and enjoy this most sociable of Christmas traditions, secure in the knowledge that you can wrap up the last of your Christmas shopping locally.
