Christmas trends making a comeback in 2025

Christmas decoration ideas tend to be a cyclical thing, with themes going in and out of fashion. This year is seeing a revival of many trends of Christmas past – so read on to learn what decorating ideas are fashionable again in 2025.

Nostalgic and retro

Christmas nostalgia is back in a big way. This means a country Christmas vibe centred on rustic decorations with plaid patterning and traditional snow Christmas trees.

It is also leading to an embrace of retro decorations, such as ‘Shiny Brite’ ornaments and vintage Santa mugs. Both date back to the 1940s and offer people the comfort of an old-fashioned festive celebration.

People are embracing quirky and playful festive ornaments too, especially ones shaped like animals. Baubles and decorations that look like robins and, more strangely, cows are trending.

Nature-inspired and organic

A second major trend this year is towards decorations that are natural-looking and organic. People are choosing nature items such as fresh green festive wreaths and pinecones as decorations. This is usually combined with twig trees.

The emphasis here is on using natural materials to decorate your home, rather than shop-bought ones. Everything should be in muted earth tones, like greens and browns, for example. The trend also involves the creation of homemade decorations out of felt and paper, as well as candles made from beeswax.

Colour palettes and metallics

At the other end of the scale, there is a trend towards cool colours and tones that are either metallic or jewel-like. The colour trend involves putting up decorations in shades like blue and white, and having artificial Christmas trees with silver leaves.

The metallic trend can be either warm or cool, depending on your taste. The former means silver and blue, while the latter can be champagne gold and green. This particular trend is combined with sparking jewel-like baubles and tinsel.

Whimsical and opulent

The last big Christmas trend of 2025 is towards opulence and whimsy. It is all about going over the top, with big ornaments that have lots of layers and oversized tree bows.

This trend involves the embrace of whimsical elements like romantic and medieval decor. It has become known as ‘castlecore’ and aims for a luxurious and gothic look.

These are the hot festive trends for this year, so all you have to do is choose one!
