As we head into the height of summer, the weather will start reaching its highest temperatures. While we’re thinking of ways to cool down, your garden will also need the same consideration. There are several jobs you need to do in your garden during this period, on top of making sure your rattan garden furniture is in the best spot for sunbathing!
1. Feed your lawn
Hopefully your lawn will be getting its fair share of sun, but make sure you water it at the right times during the day and also give it a little feed. You can get fertiliser specifically for lawns during the summertime.
2. Deadhead your plants
According to the Royal Horticultural Society, you must remove any faded or dead flowers as they can spoil your garden display if they don’t shine as bright as your other plants. It also helps them grow stronger and eventually bloom more flowers.
3. Save water
Watering your lawn and plants is important, especially with the extreme heat, but you still need to be water wise. As well as saving any water from rainfall, you can also use any leftover water from the kitchen after boiling a pot of water for cooking, for example.
4. Don’t forget about your houseplants
As well as your garden, any plants in the house also need extra care during the heat. One idea to keep your houseplants hydrated is to slowly feed them with water via the wick method, using capillary matting for the wick to let the plant draw on the water gradually.
While these jobs are important for maintaining high standards in your garden, make sure you spend as much time as possible enjoying the lovely weather.
