Christmas may still be a few months away, but we are officially now more than halfway through 2023. It’s never too early to start planning for the festive season, and whilst there are always the usual things to prepare for, such as gift budgets, Christmas decorations and Christmas dinner, why not think about trying a new tradition with the family this year.
Visit the Christmas panto
Lovingly referred to as the ‘panto’, the pantomime is a traditional and popular form of festive entertainment for the whole family. The shows are often based on fairy tales or children’s stories such as Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty, and date back to Britain’s 18th century.
Shop at Christmas markets
The Christmas market is said to have originated in Austria, but is now a widespread festivity that can be enjoyed across many other parts of the world. The UK is host to a whole range of such markets over the Christmas period, and gives everyone the opportunity to get into the festive spirit with food, drink, gifts and Christmas lights galore.
Enjoy the Christmas lights
If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly day out that still adds plenty of sparkle, visiting your local Christmas light displays is a great way to fill up on festive spirit. It’s also a great distraction for the kids if they’re filling up on too much Christmas sugar!
The Royal Christmas broadcast
If it’s not something you usually do, making time for the Royal Christmas broadcast can serve as wonderful break from the chaos Christmas day can bring. King Charles delivered his first speech last year as our new monarch, and will continue to follow in the late Queen’s footsteps with a festive speech that include reflections of the past year.
Whatever Christmas traditions you follow this year, we at Burleydam Garden Centre wish you a very merry one!
