There is nothing quite like the taste of home-grown fruit. Come summer, it makes for a delicious family snack when you are sitting around on your Supremo Tuscany garden furniture.
Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a big garden, but there are fruits you can grow in more restricted spaces. Here are some of the best ones.
‘Yummy’ raspberries
The ideal type of raspberries for growing if you do not have much space is the variety known as ‘Yummy’. They grow in a compact and tidy fashion that means they are perfect for pots or other containers. They are also easy to maintain and will produce fruit from the first year.
‘Albion’ strawberries
Strawberries and cream is synonymous with summer in Britain, and the ‘Albion’ variety is the one to go for if your space is restricted. If you plant them now, they will come to fruit by around June and will go on producing sweet red strawberries until mid-autumn. Plant them in soil that is free draining with plenty of manure and let them get the sun.
‘Little Black Prince’ blackberries
Another great choice for growing in pots or window boxes is the ‘Little Black Prince’ variety of blackberry. It is a dwarf variety, which means it will only grow to 1m in height. It will produce lush berries between August and October if you plant it in high grade compost, water regularly and situate somewhere that gets a lot of sunlight.
Any of these three delicious fruits will be fine to grow in a tight garden space this year.
